Shelflog Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 21, 2026

Shelflog is a local-first reading tracker by PByte. The app is designed to help you save books, track reading progress, keep private notes and quotes, and create a Year in Books recap without creating a Shelflog account.

Data We Collect

Shelflog does not collect, sell, share, or transmit your personal data to PByte. The app has no developer account system, no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK, no tracking SDK, and no custom backend in version 1.0.

Data Stored On Your Device

Your library, shelves, ratings, reading dates, notes, quotes, goals, selected theme, backup/import state, and local purchase entitlement cache are stored on your device. If you delete the app or set up a new phone without restoring app data, this local library may be removed unless you previously exported a Shelflog backup.

Book Metadata And Covers

Shelflog includes a read-only metadata catalog generated from Open Library records. When you view cover art, the app may request images from Open Library using cover IDs or edition IDs. These real-time content-display requests are used for app functionality; PByte does not receive, access, retain, or link them to a user.

Purchases

Shelflog Premium is handled through Apple's StoreKit. Purchases and restore purchases are processed by Apple using the Apple ID signed in on your device. Shelflog does not receive your payment card details.

Camera And Photos

If you use ISBN scanning, camera frames are processed on device to detect a barcode and are not recorded or uploaded by Shelflog. If you save a Year in Books image, Shelflog requests permission to add that image to Photos.

Backups

Shelflog backup export creates a user-controlled .shelflogbackup JSON file. Backups do not include cached cover image binaries by default.

Children

Shelflog is not directed to children under 13.
